What is Powder Coating Finish?

Our company is one of the existing companies equipped with the latest modern technologies in powder coating finish.

"Powder Coating is the application of organic powder by electrostatic attraction to metal. Once cured by heat the finish is a smooth, hard skin. All processes are factory applied under controlled, stable conditions. This provides significant benefits over traditional wet painting – Patrick Handlovsky, TIGER Drylac Canada Inc (Source: Sparta Engineering)

Powder Coating is an advanced method of applying a decorative and protective finish to virtually any type of metal that can be used both by industry and consumers. The powder used in the process is a mixture of finely ground particles of pigment and resin, which is electrostatically sprayed onto the surface to be coated. The charged powder particles adhere to the electrically grounded surfaces until the powder is heated and fused into a smooth coating in the curing oven. The result is a uniform, durable, high quality and attractive finish. Powder coating is the fastest growing finishing technology in North America, representing over 10% of all industrial finishing applications.”

How Powder Coating is Applied:

The product is being sandblasted after manufacturing is complete. Sandblasting is for removing mill scale, oil, and rust that normally comes with the fresh manufactured steel.

Next is to start using the powder. It is inside a special electrostatic or corona gun. Then it is applied to the finished product. Once the powder is applied, it is moved to the oven where it is cooked and heated up to gel the primer.

After the primer is gelled up, it is transferred back to the powder coating section where the finishing touches is applied. The final coat is usually the requested color of the customer and is applied the same manner as the primer.

Last but not the least is baking the finished work until it is completely cured and ready to be delivered or put final touchups.

Benefits of Powder Coating:

First, it is environment-friendly. There are no solvents or VOC contents so if the powder is sprayed, there will be no damage to the environment.

Second, the efficiency and average transfer efficiency of powder coating is 60-70%, meaning there is no wasted product. Unlike liquid paint which has 30-35% transfer, half of the product is evaporated. The base product for powder coating is also cheaper and more efficient than wet paint.

Powder coating finish also produces a coating twice as thick unlike standard paint. The real deal is its flexible and bends with the material it is applied to. This makes it ideal to be transferred and delivered without being cracked and doesn’t get scratched and stands up way better to other common road damage.

It is not bullet proof but it is guaranteed the most durable, longest lasting, and color-durable quality finish on any type of metal and steel. It does have much effort when applying a powder coating finish, but unlike liquid paint, “easy on, easy off.”
